He used the last of his remaining strength to light the first fuse, initiating a chain reaction just as he finally succumbed to his wounds. Unbeknownst to them, Asterios was still alive. Not long after, all of them were slain, allowing the adventurers to finish what they started. However, Commander Myranna arrives just as Asterios prepares to light the fuse and attacks him, leaving the mage critically wounded and allowing the slithzerikai who joined her in this act of treachery to attack the adventurers. Everything was going well for them and soon, the plan would be set into motion. Soon, they are joined by Sage Asterios- an Empire mage who volunteered to perform this perilous task. Sent by the last commander of the fallen settlement, a group of adventurers makes their way into the lower levels, with a mission to blow them up along with the rest of the city. The Cotran Sewers became a major location in Avernum VI when the city was on the verge of destruction. However, they were also infested by monsters, leaving them too dangerous to explore early on. In Avernum IV, the sewers of Cotra were expanded by the city's new residents. In addition, they also don't appear in Avernum III/Avernum 3: Ruined World, since the lands of Avernum themselves are not present. ![]() Since the city of Cotra above was destroyed during the events of Avernum II/Avernum 2: Crystal Souls, the sewers are left unreachable and thus do not appear in the games. ![]() Both are accessed via the surface level of Cotra. The second was where Konig kept a spellbook with a powerful mage spell. The first was where Tamus kept watch on the pylon to the central portal within the tower itself. Sometime prior to the events of Avernum I/Avernum: Escape From The Pit, two small underground areas were made by the wizards of the Tower of Magi. The Cotran Sewers make an appearance in three Avernum games in total (Avernum I/EFTP, Avernum IV and Avernum VI), although they do not play a major role until the final game in the list. ![]()
